Streetwise Start™ is built by and for disabled veterans. We design to WCAG 2.2 AA and work continuously to improve. We do not claim formal accessibility certification. If something on this site does not work for you, we want to know.

Streetwise Start™ is committed to ongoing accessibility. We design and test to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 Level AA. Accessibility work is never complete; feedback from the veteran community directly shapes what we improve next. We do not claim formal accessibility certification.
How the site supports you
Accessibility features
Each area below describes what is available today, what is in development, and what is a future goal.
Screen-reader support
Available SoonPages use semantic HTML landmarks, meaningful headings, and descriptive link and button names so screen readers can announce structure and purpose clearly.
Keyboard navigation
Available SoonEvery interactive element is reachable and operable using the keyboard alone. Skip-to-content is available at the top of every page.
Visible focus indicators
Available SoonA high-contrast gold focus ring appears on every focusable element, meeting WCAG 2.2 focus-visibility requirements.
High-contrast design
Available SoonStreetwise Brown and Deep Espresso are used for body text on light backgrounds. Streetwise Gold is reserved for accents, never for normal-size body text on light backgrounds.
Text scaling
Available SoonLayouts are built with responsive units and reflow. Text can scale up to 200% in your browser without loss of content or functionality.
Voice-navigation readiness
Available SoonInteractive elements use standard, accessible names so common voice-navigation tools (such as Voice Control and Dragon) can target them by their visible label.
Reduced-motion support
Available SoonAnimations and transitions honor the operating-system 'reduce motion' preference. No content moves, auto-plays, or auto-scrolls without user action.
Accessible forms
Available SoonEvery input has a visible label, clear instructions, associated help text, and accessible error messages when applicable.
Captions and transcripts
In DevelopmentAny video published on the site will include captions. Any audio content will include a transcript. Media is not currently published on the site.
Multilingual roadmap
Future VisionTranslation into additional languages is planned. The initial release is English. Translation quality and cultural review will be considered before publication.
ASL video roadmap
Future VisionAmerican Sign Language video summaries of core program content are a future goal, produced with qualified Deaf or Hard-of-Hearing consultants.
Mobile accessibility
Available SoonLayouts are tested at common mobile viewport sizes. Tap targets meet a minimum height of 44 pixels and are spaced to reduce accidental activation.
Standards
What we validate across the site
Every public page is reviewed against these criteria before release.
- Semantic HTML and correct heading order
- Skip-to-content link at the top of every page
- Keyboard-accessible menus, dialogs, filters, and forms
- Accessible names on all buttons and links
- Descriptive alternative text for meaningful images
- Color is never the only channel of meaning
- Verified color contrast on brand surfaces
- Text scales to 200% without loss of functionality
- Large, well-spaced touch targets on mobile
- Respects prefers-reduced-motion
- Clear form labels, instructions, and error messaging
- No automatic motion or automatic audio
- Caption and transcript requirements for any future media
- Tested at common mobile and desktop viewport sizes
Color accessibility
How we use brand color safely
Streetwise Brown and Streetwise Gold are our brand colors. We use them under strict contrast rules.
- Body text uses Streetwise Brown or Deep Espresso on light backgrounds.
- White or Warm Ivory is used for text on Streetwise Brown surfaces.
- Streetwise Brown is used for text on Streetwise Gold surfaces.
- Streetwise Gold is not used for normal-size text on light backgrounds.
- White text is not used on Streetwise Gold.
- Visible focus indicators use a gold ring with sufficient contrast against surrounding surfaces.
- Status is communicated with text and icons in addition to color.
Text on Streetwise Brown
Warm Ivory text on brown meets AA contrast for body copy.
Text on Streetwise Gold
Streetwise Brown text on gold — never white on gold.
Text on Warm Ivory
Body text on ivory uses Deep Espresso or Streetwise Brown.
Status is always shown with Available Soon — icon + text + color, never color alone.

Your report goes to the people who build the site. We take accessibility barriers seriously.
What to include
- The page URL where the barrier occurred.
- What you were trying to do (for example, submit a form or read a section).
- What happened, and what you expected instead.
- The device, browser, and any assistive technology you were using, if you are comfortable sharing.
- How you would like us to follow up.
